Taking care of tech: How to get the most life out of your smartphone

Take care of your smartphone’s battery with these tips:

Samsung recommends keeping their lithium ion batteries above 50% charge to maintain overall battery capacity. Avoid letting the battery drain fully to extend its lifespan and prevent frequent recharging.

Avoid extreme temperatures

Apple advises against using your phone in very hot temperatures as it can permanently reduce battery lifespan. Avoid extreme heat or cold, and don’t believe the myth that putting your phone in a freezer can prolong battery life – this can actually damage the battery.

Google cautions that hot batteries drain faster, even when not in use, leading to potential damage.

Adjust your power options

Extend your battery’s daily life by tweaking device settings to reduce power usage. Turn down screen brightness, use dark theme, and enable auto-brightness. Check for power-hungry apps to switch off or uninstall to save battery life.

For iPhone users, turn on low power mode when battery level is below 10% to stretch battery life. Samsung Android phones have a similar “power saving mode” option.
